The design and construction of a prototype campus “Osprey Connector” shuttle stop for the University of North Florida located in Jacksonville, FL. With a large proportion of its student body being automobile commuters the UNF campus is surrounded by several satellite parking facilities. The pedestrian traffic between these parking lots and the inner campus is facilitated by a campus wide loop shuttle system of buses. The series of campus shuttle stops, located around the loop road circling the main UNF campus, have become the de facto front gates and entry point to students and faculty who work and study inside the central campus. PDG’s Jacksonville office was commissioned as part of its annual UNF Campus Architect contract to develop a prototype design that reflected UNF’s development as a major institution of higher learning and that would complement and blend in with the surrounding campus visual context. PDG’s solution called for the use of pre-fabricated components and brick masonry to match existing campus landmarks. This combination of materials allowed the facility to be built quickly and well below original budget estimates.
